GLENDA YOUNG
I'm a displaced Mackem, living in London. As well as writing
the Corrie weekly updates, I do some freelance writing, support Sunderland
AFC, grow my own veg and drink champagne from my slippers.
I graduated as a (very) mature student in 2001 with a
First Class Hons degree in Journalism from the University of Sunderland.
During my degree I was extremely fortunate to be invited on placement
to the Coronation Street press office where I assisted with the Granada
publication Access All Areas: Behind
the Scenes at Coronation Street. I also used to write
freelance for the now defunct Coronation Street magazine.
After
graduation I moved to live in London and carried on my studies at
postgrad (MA) level. In one essay I discussed the representation
of the various forms of femininity in Coronation Street - and if you're
studying soaps in general or Corrie in particular at undergrad or postgrad
level and need advice on where to find academic sources of info, then
a good place to start is by looking at the list I've compiled on the Corrie Net FAQ.
I've been
a fan of Corrie for as long as I can remember. My all-time favourite
female character is Rita Sullivan and male character is Spider Nugent.
Spider's profile, which I wrote, is on line at the Coronation Street
fan web site corrie.net. To take a look at it, click the button.
I also helped write and now maintain the Coronation Street
FAQ on corrie.net
From its inception in October 2005 until September 2007 I was editor of
Corrieblog, which is owned by Shiny Media. Under
my editorship, Corrieblog was lauded by The Guardian as Marvellous
and twice by the Manchester Evening News as Excellent and Essential
Reading for Street fans.
Currently, I blog Corrie fun stuff and the weekly Coronation Street updates
right here. My blog has been praised by Now Magazine in Canada
as Witty and pereceptive, a must-read for Corrie fanatics. I
also podcast a monthly Coronation Street update for the lovely people at the
The Soap Show
Coronation Street: The Complete Saga, is a novel by Katherine Hardy. I was
recently commissioned to update the novel with major events from the cobbles
from 2003 to date. The book will go on sale in August 2008 and is available
via Amazon
here. My name and contribution to the book will appear on an imprint
page inside the book.
